At first glance, the Fabio Lozano Auditorium might seem like just another concert hall in Bogotá. But inside this space at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, something unusual happens: the hall can alter the way each concert sounds. It achieves this with “acoustic clouds” suspended from the ceiling, capable of adjusting how the music reaches the audience, whether in symphonic concerts or more intimate settings such as candlelit recitals.

Upon entering the Fabio Lozano, your gaze is almost automatically drawn to the ceiling. There, pieces of tempered glass float in the air; at first glance, they might seem like part of the decor. But these “acoustic clouds” aren’t just there for decoration: they function as deflectors—surfaces that help manage sound reflections within the auditorium depending on the type of music being played.

It’s a true feat of acoustic engineering that allows the hall to respond differently to the needs of a full orchestra versus those of a chamber music recital. And the adaptability doesn’t stop at the sound: at the Fabio Lozano Auditorium, even the stage can change size thanks to a modern hydraulic system.

Live music and thousands of candles: an experience for all five senses at the Fabio Lozano

The Fabio Lozano also benefits from its location. The auditorium is located within the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, in an area of downtown Bogotá where it’s easy to add a concert to an afternoon or evening outing.

And although it belongs to a university, it is by no means a minor venue. In fact, it is the second home of the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra and has 608 seats—a capacity that keeps it from being a massive venue without detracting from its stature as a concert hall.
