A bowl of red velvet cookie with raspberry ice cream—inspired by the traditional Dracula popsicle—is one of the offerings aimed at debunking the myth that plant-based food lacks flavor.
This dish is part of VegUp Fest, a culinary event focused on 100% plant-based food that is taking place in Bogotá through October 4.
Creative Bowl Tour
The festival features various locations throughout the city where diners—whether vegetarian or not—can try unusual combinations.
One of the participating establishments is Zukini, located at Calle 24 and Carrera Séptima, in the Santa Fe neighborhood.
This venue is spread across three floors: a fast-food café on the first floor, a meditation area on the second floor, and a lunch restaurant on the top floor.
At this location, festival menus range from 21,000 to 25,000 pesos, and both include a drink.
Among the options is the “A mi manera” bowl, which, for 21,000 pesos, combines brown rice, red beans, roasted vegetables, tofu in sweet-and-sour sauce, carrot and beet salad, house dressing, and caramelized quinoa.
The other option is the “Zukini Vital,” priced at 25,000 pesos, made with brown rice, chickpeas, carrot and celery sticks, green and purple cabbage, cherry tomatoes, raisins, peanuts, and avocado.
The Sweet Side of the Day
For dessert, the event’s route takes you to Chapinero. At Dolce Vegan Bakery, on Carrera Séptima and Calle 40B, the “Dracula Cookie Bowl” is available for 21,000 pesos.
The dish, completely free of animal-derived ingredients, combines the cookie with ice cream to recreate the textures and flavors of the classic seasonal treat.
Attendees can find complete information through the festival’s channels to plan their own culinary tour and, once they’ve finished their visits, vote for their favorite dish from this year’s event.
